Freakonomics

I read some reviews of the book “Freakonomics” by Steven D. Levitt and Stephen J. Dubner.

I think this is a very interesting book despite the fact that it’s a worldwide bestseller. The author applied his knowledge in economics in analyzing everyday happenings in human life.
There is a part in the book where they discussed something about what will happen if a political candidate cuts his budget for campaign into half. According to the book, if the politician spends only 50% of his total budget, his votes will only decrease by 1%. So its useless to spend billions of dollars in election.

Death penalty does not significantly decrease the number of criminals. To decrease crime, they should increase the number of people imprisoned. He also connected abortion to crime rate. According to the book, crime rate fell because of legalized abortion. Doesn’t make sense? Well, hear this.. It is highly possible that most criminals were unwanted child meaning those children who got aborted will someday become criminals but ever since abortion has been legalized crime rate decreased significantly.

I definitely recommend this book (although I haven’t read it myself yet)…
